Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Abstract Futuristic Background

What is it?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition caused by pressure on the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel in the wrist, leading to pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and fingers.

Ablatotech Clinical Trials

What are the symptoms?

  • Tingling, numbness, or burning sensation in the fingers or hand

  • Pain in the wrist or hand, especially at night

  • Weakness in the hand, making it hard to grip objects

  • Swollen feeling in the fingers

What else could it be? (Differential diagnosis)

  • Tendonitis

  • Arthritis (osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis)

  • Thoracic outlet syndrome

  • Cervical radiculopathy (nerve compression in the neck)

What are the aggravating factors?

  • Repetitive hand and wrist movements (e.g., typing, using a mouse, assembly line work)

  • Wrist injury or trauma

  • Pregnancy  (due to fluid retention)

  • Obesity

  • Diabetes

What types of food are helpful?

  • Anti-inflammatory foods: Omega-3 fatty acids (found in salmon, walnuts) and antioxidants      (from berries, green leafy vegetables).

  • Vitamin B6: Important for nerve function (found in bananas, potatoes, and fortified cereals).

  • Magnesium: To reduce muscle spasms and support nerve health (found in nuts, seeds, leafy greens).

Sample Recipe: Salmon with Roasted Veggies

  • Ingredients: Salmon, sweet potatoes, broccoli, olive oil.

  • Directions: Roast sweet potatoes and broccoli with olive oil and serve with grilled salmon for a nutrient-packed, anti-inflammatory meal.

What are the traditional treatments?

  • Wrist splints: To immobilize the wrist, especially at night.

  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs): To reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

  • Steroid injections: To decrease swelling and pressure on the nerve.

  • Surgery: In severe cases, carpal tunnel release surgery may be needed.

What are the natural and alternative treatments?

  • Turmeric: Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, turmeric may help reduce pain and swelling.

  • Acupuncture: Some studies suggest acupuncture can help alleviate CTS symptoms by      stimulating nerve function.

  • Vitamin B6 supplementation: May help support nerve repair and reduce symptoms of CTS.
