What are the symptoms?
Diarrhea (can be greasy and foul-smelling)

Nausea and vomiting
Weight loss (in chronic cases)
Dehydration due to prolonged diarrhea
What else could it be? (Differential diagnosis)
Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS): Diarrhea and bloating symptoms overlap.
Lactose intolerance: Can cause bloating and diarrhea after dairy consumption.
Celiac disease: Chronic diarrhea and fatigue.
Amebiasis: Another parasitic infection with similar gastrointestinal symptoms.
What are the aggravating factors?
Consuming contaminated water or food: Most often from untreated water sources.
Traveling to areas with poor sanitation: Endemic regions often include parts of Africa, Asia, and Latin America.
Poor hygiene: Lack of handwashing and food safety practices.
What types of food are helpful?
BRAT diet: Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast to soothe the stomach.
Probiotics: Yogurt or fermented foods to restore gut flora after treatment.
Avoid dairy: As lactose intolerance can occur after a giardiasis infection.
Sample Recipe: Ginger and Banana Smoothie

What are the traditional treatments?
Antimicrobial medications: Metronidazole, tinidazole, or nitazoxanide are typically prescribed to treat giardiasis.
Hydration: To replace fluids lost due to diarrhea.
What are the natural and alternative treatments?
Garlic: Antimicrobial properties that may help fight Giardia.
Black walnut: Traditionally used for parasitic infections.
Pumpkin seeds: Known for their antiparasitic effects.
Oregano oil: Found to have antimicrobial properties in some studies.
