Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC)
What is it?
Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer that causes the breast to become red, swollen, and warm. It progresses quickly and often does not present with a distinct lump like other forms of breast cancer.

What are the symptoms?
Red, swollen, or inflamed skin on the breast (may appear pitted like an orange peel)
Pain or tenderness in the breast
Rapid increase in breast size
Changes in skin texture
Swollen lymph nodes (under the arm or near the collarbone)
What else could it be? (Differential diagnosis)
Mastitis (infection of the breast tissue, often in breastfeeding women)
Cellulitis (skin infection, causing redness and swelling)
Other forms of breast cancer (non-inflammatory types)
Benign breast conditions (e.g., cysts, fibroadenomas)
What are the aggravating factors?
Family history of breast cancer
Genetic mutations (e.g., BRCA1/2)
Hormone replacement therapy (increases the risk of certain types of breast cancer)
Age (more common in younger women, particularly under 40)
What types of food are helpful?
Antioxidant-rich foods: Such as berries, spinach, and kale, to support the immune system and reduce inflammation.
Healthy fats: Omega-3 fatty acids from fish or flaxseeds may reduce inflammation.
Lean proteins: To help with recovery and maintain muscle mass.
Sample Recipe: Grilled Salmon with Spinach Salad
Ingredients: Salmon fillet, spinach, olive oil, lemon, garlic.
Directions: Grill salmon and serve with a fresh spinach salad dressed with olive oil and lemon for a healthy, anti-inflammatory meal.
What are the traditional treatments?
Chemotherapy: Often used as a first-line treatment to shrink the tumor.
Surgery: Mastectomy (removal of the breast) is commonly recommended.
Radiation therapy: After surgery, to target any remaining cancer cells.
Targeted therapy and immunotherapy: Used for certain genetic types of breast cancer.
What are the natural and alternative treatments?
Turmeric: Contains curcumin, which has strong anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties.
Green tea: May inhibit cancer cell growth due to its high antioxidant content.
Vitamin D: Deficiency in vitamin D has been linked to several types of cancer, and supplementation may help improve outcomes.
