Pulmonary Alveolar Proteinosis (PAP)

What is it?

Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is a rare lung disease characterized by the accumulation of surfactant (a fatty protein substance) in the alveoli (air sacs of the lungs). This accumulation impairs gas exchange and leads to breathing difficulties.
