Thrombophlebitis
What is it?
Thrombophlebitis is the inflammation of a vein caused by a blood clot. It can occur in veins near the surface of the skin (superficial thrombophlebitis) or deeper veins (deep vein thrombosis, DVT).

What are the symptoms?
Redness and warmth along the affected vein.
Swelling and pain near the vein.
Hardening of the vein or visible veins.
What else could it be? (Differential diagnosis)
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT): A more severe form where the clot is deeper in the body.
Varicose veins: Can sometimes lead to thrombophlebitis due to vein weakening.
What are the aggravating factors?
Prolonged sitting or standing: This can increase the risk of clot formation.
Obesity: Increases pressure on veins.
Hormonal changes: Especially during pregnancy or while taking birth control pills.
What types of food are helpful?
Increase water intake: To prevent blood from becoming too thick.
Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids: Found in fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts, which help improve circulation.
Limit salt intake: To reduce swelling.
What are the traditional treatments?
Anti-inflammatory medications: Such as NSAIDs to reduce inflammation and pain.
Compression stockings: To help reduce swelling and improve circulation.
Anticoagulants: In severe cases to thin the blood and prevent further clotting.
What are the natural and alternative treatments?
Apple cider vinegar: Known to improve blood circulation and reduce inflammation.
Garlic: Has anticoagulant properties and can help improve circulation.
Turmeric: Contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant properties.
