Typhoid Fever

What is it?

Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella typhi, typically transmitted through contaminated food or water. It is a common disease in areas with poor sanitation.

What types of food are helpful?

  • Small, frequent meals: To avoid overwhelming the stomach during infection.

  • Fluids: To prevent dehydration, especially if diarrhea is present.

  • Easy-to-digest foods: Like boiled potatoes, rice, and bananas.

Sample Recipe: Rice Congee with Ginger

  • 1 cup rice

  • 6 cups water

  • 1-inch piece of ginger, sliced

  • Simmer rice and ginger until it forms a porridge-like consistency. Add a pinch of salt to taste.

  • Antibiotics: Commonly used antibiotics include ciprofloxacin and azithromycin.

  • Supportive care: Rest and hydration, especially if diarrhea or vomiting is present.
