What are the symptoms?

  • Pain on the inner side of the elbow.

  • Instability or a feeling that the elbow is "loose."

  • Swelling and bruising around the elbow.

  • Decreased strength in the arm.

What else could it be? (Differential diagnosis)

  • Tennis elbow: Involves pain on the outside of the elbow due to tendon overuse.

  • Golfer's elbow: Involves pain on the inner side of the elbow, but is due to tendon overuse rather than ligament injury.

What are the aggravating factors?

  • Overuse: Especially repetitive overhead throwing motions.

  • Poor technique in sports, leading to abnormal strain on the elbow.

What types of food are helpful?

  • Anti-inflammatory foods: Include omega-3-rich foods (salmon, walnuts, chia seeds) to reduce inflammation.

  • Protein: Important for muscle and tissue repair (chicken, tofu, lentils).

  • Collagen-rich foods: Bone broth and gelatin help support ligament healing.

What are the traditional treatments?

  • Rest and ice: To reduce swelling and promote healing.

  • Physical therapy: Strengthening exercises for the elbow.

  • Surgery: In severe cases, such as Tommy John surgery, to reconstruct the UCL.

What are the natural and alternative treatments?

  • Turmeric: Contains curcumin, which has powerful anti-inflammatory effects.

  • Arnica: Known for reducing swelling and bruising.

  • Epsom salt baths: Can help reduce muscle soreness and inflammation in the elbow area.
